Congress sees ominous signs in Kashmir move
Thiruvananthapuram: The political affairs committee of the KPCC on Tuesday adopted a resolution against the Union government stripping Jammu and Kashmir of the special status that gave it significant autonomy.
KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran said the political resolution would be sent to the AICC.
Only those leaders available in the state capital attended the emergency meeting.
“This move will only create a rift between the people where it is going to create more conflicts," he said.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “evolving into a dictator leading the country to a fascist rule.”
He also said that very soon the country will see a uniform civil code and a temple constructed at the site where Babri Masjid stood.
The Congress believes that the BJP’s decision to virtually revoke Article 370 would have far-reaching consequences, he said.
Later in the evening, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated a protest meeting at Palayam Martyr’s Square, followed by KSU’s protest.
A PAC member told DC that the government should have taken a consensus before coming up with such a move with serious consequences.
