Row over Rahul Gandhi visit hots up

Government to deny nod for meet, TRS youth wing vows to block Rahul.

HYDERABAD: AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Osmania University has turned into a controversy between TRS and Congress. During Rahul Gandhi’s two-day visit, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) had planned a meeting at Arts College of Osmania University or at the University auditorium to facilitate an interaction between Rahul Gandhi and students. But the TRS youth wing has announced that they will obstruct Rahul Gandhi’s meeting at Osmania University.

The TS government has reportedly taken a decision not to give any permission to political parties to conduct meetings at the Osmania University. TPCC has raised objection against this. Telangana CLP Deputy Leader and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy condemned the announcement of the TRS Youth wing. Mr Reddy said it was improper to obstruct Rahul Gandhi’s meeting at Osmania University as it was the Congress which granted a separate Telangana state when every one thought it as impossible to achieve. “Are you going to obstruct Rahul Gandhi for granting a separate Telangana state?” he asked, adding that the people should welcome Rahul Gandhi in a big way for granting a separate state.

He said that Osmania students had not allowed Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to visit Osmania University and keeping this in view, the TRS youth wing has decided to obstruct Rahul Gandhi’s meeting. Ponguleti said that the people will teach KCR a lesson. Meanwhile, TPCC is searching for an alternate place to conduct a meeting where Rahul Gandhi can interact with students. TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday visited Shamshabad and Nampally areas where Rahul Gandhi is likely to conduct meetings. They are planning to conduct the meeting with women Self Help Groups at Shamshabad and the public meeting at Nampally.
