NORKA-Oman Air pact for discount to NRKs

NORKA Roots vice-chairman K. Varadar-ajan said that so far about four lakh NRKs had availed of the NORKA identity card.

Thiruvananthapuram: NORKA-Roots and Oman Air have entered into an agreement that offers seven percent discount in base air fares to Malayalis.

NORKA-Roots chief executive officer K. Harikrishnan Namboothiri and Oman Air regional vice-president V.A. Sunil told reporters here on Monday that the offer could be availed of by NRKs who were having the NORKA identity card as well as their families.

The scheme was already on and it could be availed of in all Oman Air flights originating from India to any destination as well as from any destination to India. The discount will be available on all classes also.

NORKA Roots vice-chairman K. Varadarajan said that so far about four lakh NRKs had availed of the NORKA identity card. Talks were on with other international carriers on extending such discounts to NRKs. “Though the discount amount would not be very significant, it could benefit the NRKs. For those travelling with families, it would be a relief as each passenger would get the discounts,” he said.

At present, Oman Air operates six daily flights from Kerala – one from Thiruvananthapuram, two from Kochi and three from Karippur. Oman Air network also covers all Gulf countries and major destinations in US and Europe, said Mr. Sunil.

A formal agreement between NORKA-Roots and Oman Air was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan.
