Guwahati: Allegations against officials omitting names of prominent people from the final draft of NRC has attracted anger from all sections. Defining it a planned conspiracy to discredit the process of updating the NRC, the state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela said several family members of former President, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed did not apply for inclusion of names in the NRC and their names were not dropped.
The NRC officials in Mangaldoi district where names of former chief minister Anwara Taimur was not included in the final draft told this newspaper that Ms Taimur had applied online for inclusion of her name in the NRC but her legacy paper was missing. “We requested her to submit the legacy paper but she could not send it to us as she is living in Australia,” said NRC officials.
