Telangana government tests out e-file system

Many states have been working on the e-file system for a long time; AP has started the e-file system at the district level as well.

Hyderabad: After much dilly-dallying, the TS government has begun running a pilot e-file system in the finance department. The government plans to extend the system to other departments after seeing the results.

The finance department has started running fresh files in the new system. But some sections are not able to join in due to poor Internet connectivity.

Finance secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania said 90 per cent of the files were running thr-ough the e-system. About 10,000 e-files in the finance department were circulated at one time but the practice had been stopped, Mr Sultania said. It has been restarted.

Many states have been working on the e-file system for a long time; AP has started the e-file system at the district level as well.

Used to physical files for decades, officials are finding the old system better. A senior official said it would take time for them to get used to e-files. Once an employee starts with an e-file, it becomes easy to stay with it.

In the old method, the physical file is circulated from the level of the section officer right up to the Chief Minister through the heads of department and secretaries. Then, it begins its return journey back to the section officer to issue orders. It takes a week to complete the circuit.

Using e-file, the work can be completed in a day. An official said that this was the best system for speedy disposal of files.
