Neet is here to stay, says BJP secy Raja

Govt is making a mistake by not releasing merit list'

Chennai: In what could be a setback to the Tamil Nadu government’s attempt to seek exemption from Neet for medical aspirants, BJP national secretary H. Raja has said Neet will continue to be held and virtually ruled out any exemption.

He took strong exception to the state government for “committing a grave mistake” and contended that Neet is here to stay. “I am happy to know that the Neet is here to stay,” he said. His remark comes at a time when the TN Government has made fervent efforts to seek exemption from Neet.

“TN government is committing a grave mistake and injustice by not releasing the merit list according to the Neet exams,” Mr Raja said. In his tweet, he said, “many students from the State board from rural areas have taken a break from studies and written Neet and are successful. Exempting TN will be an injustice.”
Earlier, this senior leader expressed that seeking exemption from Neet has “become a disease” for TN. “Why was there no opposition to the entrance test to IIT, just like there is strong opposition to Neet now?” he asked and said the argument put forth by the state government that Neet test will affect state school students in the selection process is “unacceptable.”

The students are under stress because the government has not come out with the selection list, he said, and added that there was no provision for exempting the State from Neet. “They continue to resist because they can get the fee nominated by the government,” he said.

It may be recalled that Finance Minister D. Jayakumar has said, “We don’t want Neet. We are doing our best.” The State is considering challenging the Madras High Court order in the Supreme Court, besides adopting an ordinance with the approval of the Central government.
