Lalu, family have close links with Bihar's mining mafia, alleges Sushil Modi

Talking to reporters in Patna, he said three companies Broadson, Bansidhar, Mor Mukut were given the tender of mining worth Rs 237 cr.

Patna: Stepping up his attack on RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday claimed that the family has close links with people associated with mining mafia in Bihar.

Modi said the director of three companies dealing with illegal sand mining is closely associated with Lalu Yadav’s family and has been investing in their properties.

While talking to reporters in Patna, he said that three companies – Broadson, Bansidhar, and Mor Mukut – were given the tender of mining worth Rs 237 crores.

He said Subhash Prasad Yadav, the director of all three companies, is a “right-hand man of Lalu Yadav and was given sand mining contract in six districts of Bihar”.

Documents presented by the deputy chief minister also revealed that Subhash had bought three flats from Lalu’s wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi on June 13, 2017, at the cost of Rs 1 crore 72 Lakh.

“Buying three flats on one single day raises doubts. I will be sending all documents to the Income Tax Department seeking an investigation regarding payments made to Lalu Yadav and his family,” Modi said on Monday in Patna.

The attack on Lalu’s family comes days after Modi had claimed that he would come out with documentary evidence to prove that the sand mining mafias were involved in funding RJD and also associated with the family.

Modi had earlier told this newspaper that the NDA government were reviewing files to find whether irregularities occurred when RJD was part of the government.

Nitish Kumar had resigned as Chief Minister of the Grand Secular Alliance government in Bihar last month after Lalu Yadav’s younger son Tejashwi Yadav repeatedly refused to give explanations about corruption charges he has been facing.

Within 24 hours of his resignation, Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the NDA government along with Modi, who took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.

It was Sushil Modi, who had earlier raised a string of corruption charges against Lalu Yadav’s family. He had accused the family of laundering money through various shell companies to purchase properties in Patna and Delhi’s high profile locations at a throwaway price.

“Lalu Yadav must come out with the truth about their links with sand mining mafia and selling three flats in a single day to Subhash Prasad Yadav,” Modi said.
