Bengaluru: 16 medals! NLSIU girl delights

Shruthi Ashok was the star of the 25th annual convocation of National Law School of India University (NLSIU).

Bengaluru: Entering the campus of the varsity as the 26th person on the All India Rank list and graduating as topper with the most number of gold medals, this city youngster Shruthi Ashok was the star of the 25th annual convocation of National Law School of India University (NLSIU).

Shruthi, who is based in Koramangala, bagged sixteen out of the 49 gold medals presented during the ceremony here on Sunday. She attributed her achievements to the conducive atmosphere and the diversity of students provided at the campus. “Everyone at campus, starting from the vice-chancellor himself, is always approachable. The diversity among the students and the faculty has contributed to gifting a broader perspective of the world to a person like me, who came here with a limited worldview,” she said. On the recent issue of state government deciding to introduce a 50% reservation for domicile students at the varsity, the budding lawyer opined that the best interest of the university authorities should be considered. “Ensuring every stakeholder concerned is consulted and considered before taking the final call is essential. The welcoming environment which has been the face of the varsity should be kept in mind,” she said.

The 23-year old topper in BA LL.B (Hons.), who finds prime interest in constitutional law and taxation law, has decided to practice as a professional in the city . The delighted parents were euphoric about their only daughter’s achievements. “A lot of efforts during the past five years have gone in to her getting recognised now at this level,” said her mother Manju Ashok, while her father Ashok B, an IT Consultant, asserted that her determination to become a lawyer even there was none in the same profession from their family was something he always looked forward to. Shruthi considers judicial sphere as a rewarding discipline of study and work. She said she has an open mind to explore different avenues of the system to reach an accomplished position to work for societal welfare.
