Govt bans sale of temple lands: Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy

He said his government was keen to promote temple tourism in Karaikal which has several important shrines.

Puducherry: The Puducherry government has rescinded the order issued by the previous AINRC government to sell temple lands.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy told newsmen at his residence in Puducherry on Sunday that the previous government had issued orders which permitted the government to sell temple lands.

"This was causing serious impact on the temples in having proper sources to perform routine rituals and poojas in the shrines. The order has been rescinded... ," he said.

He said his government was keen to promote temple tourism in Karaikal which has several important shrines, including the one for Lord Saneeswarar at Tirunallar near Karaikal.

The Saneeswarar temple had been attracting large streams of devotees from different parts of the country and hence the region could be developed into a centre for temple tourism.
