Treat diploma as inter for police jobs: Telangana High Court
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board to consider polytechnic diploma courses as equivalent to Intermediate for the purpose of recruitment.
Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili gave the order while dealing with a petition by seven polytechnic students, who passed the recruitment tests for the post of constable. The board rejected them saying they did not have the required qualification as per the recruitment notification.
Aggrieved by the decision, the candidates approached the High Court seeking a direction to the board to allow them to participate in the selections
The board had issued a notification on May 31, 2018, for the direct recruitment of stipendiary cadet trainee (SCT) police constable (PC) for civil, armed reserve, special armed reserve, TS Special Police, firemen and warders.
It said the educational qualification was Intermediate or its equivalent. After four stages of selection, the qualified candidates were called for certificate verification on the third week of June. The petitioners were not allowed on the grounds of that they did not have the required qualification.
Counsel for the petitioners said the government order issued by the higher education department in 2001 had said that the polytechnic diploma was equivalent to Interme-diate. He said the police board had allowed recruiting polytechnic diplomates for the constable posts in the notification issued in 2015.
The court then directed the board to consider the petitioners to further selection process.
