No hurdles in conducting Vattiyoorkavu bypoll: Meena

Meanwhile, political parties have already started carrying out groundwork for the by-elections to six Assembly constituencies.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena on Saturday said there were no hurdles in conducting bypoll in Vattiyoorkavu assembly constituency.

The CEO has received a legal opinion to this effect. The bypoll has been necessitated due to K.Muraleedharan's election to Lok Sabha.

Mr Meena said the legal advice had been sought regarding Kumanam Rajashekharan's petition against K.Muraleedharain in connection with Vattiyorkavu elections in 2016 in which he came second.

Since Mr Muraleedharan has resigned as MLA after getting elected to Parliament, there should not be major problem in holding the bypoll. The petition was concerning violation of expenditure limit.

The CEO said the bypolls at six assembly constituencies would be held soon. The Speaker's notification to this effect has been received and hopefully the elections will held along with the forthcoming Assembly polls.
