Ejipura flyover: Wait gets longer

The construction of 81 pillars is almost complete. Of the 39 trees which come in the way of the project, 25 have been translocated.

BENGALURU: Commuters who brave the Ejipura-Koramangala stretch on a daily basis will have to wait for more than one more year for the completion of flyover, as it will miss its earlier November 2019 deadline.

The new deadline for its completion is September 2020. The construction began in October 2017 and land acquisition delays affected its progress.

City Mayor Gangambike, who was flooded with repeated complaints on the tardy progress of the work, air and noise pollution in the area, inspected the ongoing work and told officials to speed it up.

The proposed 2.4 km-long flyover, at a cost of Rs 214 crore, have been executed by the BBMP and it will be its second longest flyover project in the city after the Sirsi Circle flyover.

The flyover is expected to cut travel time by thirty minutes as commuters can avoid many traffic signals in Koramangala, Ejipura and surrounding areas to reach Sarjapura Road and Hosur Road.

The flyover will help commuters avoid major traffic junctions at Ejipura main road, Inner Ring Road, Sony World Signal and Kendriya Sadan junction apart from other areas in Koramangala.

The construction of 81 pillars is almost complete. Of the 39 trees which come in the way of the project, 25 have been translocated. Extra care is taken to avoid cutting trees, said an official.

From Sarjapur Road to reach Ejipura, an extra ramp is being included in the project and for this land has been acquired from St John’s Research Institute and in return they have been given TDR rights. Works are also in the final stage to takeover land from 46 private players, the official said.
