Monthly reviews: Karnataka CM puts NH projects on fast track
Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the ongoing projects involving around 4,000 km national highways in the state within a year.
Speaking to reporters after a high level meeting with NHAI officials to review the national highway projects in the state being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 37,000 crore, Mr Kumaraswamy observed that the progress of highway work had slowed down and directed the officers to hold monthly review meetings chaired by the chief secretary to complete all projects in a time bound manner.
He also directed the Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers of the concerned districts to speed up the land acquisition process and hand over the land to NHAI besides replacing electric poles and water pipes quickly while developing the roads.
Meanwhile, PWD Minister H.D. Revanna stated that the state has a total of 7556 km roads jointly maintained by the NHAI and National Highway Division of PWD. "It is planned to develop 1,959 km of roads with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore during 2018-19. The cooperation of various departments is necessary to implement these projects successfully," he said.
