Hyderabad: The GHMC will use trenchless technology to dispose of stormwater using the force of gravity.
This is stated to be a permanent solution to drain excess rainwater. The corporation will try it out at Uppuguda level crossing where a 540-metre 1,200-mm diameter pipeline will be laid along the rail underbridge boundary. The water will be let out into the Murki nala.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4.57 crore, and tenders were floated on Friday. The corporation will open the price bids on July 19 and technical bids on July 30. Officials said they would identify the locations where excess rainwater can be drained through gravity, rather than pumping it into drains.
A senior GHMC official said the corporation had found 132 manholes to be dangerous.
The corporation would instal warning boards, and two officials including an executive engineer will monitor the manholes to avoid any untoward incident.
The GHMC official said the number of manholes would be minimised after the trenchless stormwater disposal technology is used.
