Hyderabad: Two new boards stating ‘Restricted access Internal Unit gates’, have come up in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) area near Eagle Chowk road. Residents’ organisations have given a representation regarding the same to the Ministry of Defence.
The roads where the boards have been erected were reopened subsequent to recent orders from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), but have again been closed.
This includes Surender Marg from Eagle Chowk to the Golf Course. Eagle Chowk sees heavy traffic through Lothkunta-Ammuguda road, which connects it to Yapral. After being reopened for a few days, Surender Marg was suddenly closed again.
A board has now been put up at its entrance that reads, ‘Internal Unit gates No.1’.
Another road to the east of Surender Marg was also closed and has a board saying ‘Internal Unit Gate No.2’. The attempt seems to be to show that these are ‘Unit Line’ roads where civilians have restricted access.
The Federation for North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) has given a representation to defence minister. Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the status of Cantonment roads in the SCB and stated how the roads still remain closed despite orders from the ministry.
