Protest for Dharna Chowk to reach Delhi
Hyderabad: The police on Thursday took political activists into preventive custody before they planned to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao seeking lifting of curbs on Dharna Chowk at Indira Park.
Representatives of the Dharna Chowk Protection Committee constituted by 10 parties including the CPM and the CPI wanted to meet Mr Rao but did not have an appointment.
The police who have gathered at Makdhoom Bhavan, venue of the meeting, took CPM secretary T. Veerabha-dram, AAP leader Prof. P.L. Visweswara Rao and others into preventive custody. CPI secretary C. Venkat Reddy escaped.
Committee representatives later said they would take the to the notice of the Centre by staging a dharna at Jantar Mantar on August 22 to protest the “autocratic” rule that was not allowing democratic protest.
