Bengaluru: KR Market set to get a smart' facelift
Bengaluru: BBMP is vying to make the most out of the 'Smart City’ tag in raising the standards of the city. After bagging the tag last month, BBMP is working overtime to set up Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to effectively implement the things enlisted the smart city application.
The civic body plans to spend Rs 1,742 crore, of which Rs 500 will be allotted from the centre's Ministry of Urban Development in a span of five years, while the rest has to be borne by the state government.
BBMP Mayor G. Padmavathi told Deccan Chronicle that under the smart city project, roads will be identified and redeveloped under the Tender SURE model.
Giving more insights into the developmental projects under the smart city project, Padmavathi said "TenderSURE roads have set the standards for other cities to emulate. Of the total budget of Rs 1,742 crore, over Rs 1,000 crore will be set for the remodelling of roads in the heart of the city."
Historical markets such as K.R. Market and Russell Market will be taken up for comprehensive development. They will be renovated without affecting its historical value. Detailed Project Report for renovation of these above markets were ready and works will be taken up after placing before the SPV after it is being set up, she said.
BBMP will look into issue such as retaining the heritage building, plugging leakages and cracks, improving connectivity to the markets, efficiently using the available space for vending and other aspects, he added This apart, Ulsoor and Sankey Lakes will be developed and protected, she said.
