Dharmapuri: The Dharmapuri police conducted a series of raids in villages surrounding Marandahallai, 52-km from here, after an illegal gun-making unit was busted here in Panchapalli police limits.
Police said illegal weapons making unit was busted in Thimjepalli village, near Rayakottai of Krishnagiri district. One person, identified as 36-years-old Dasan of Thimjepalli was also arrested for the crime.
Dasan in police custody admitted to running the unit for more than two years and sold the weapons to villagers who allegedly used them for hunting wild animals that enter their farm lands for raiding crops.
The Panchapalli police based on the information given by Dasan raided the houses of people to whom the accused had sold the country-made guns.
