Demand for MBBS, BDS up by 60 per cent
Chennai: The application sales for MBBS and BDS courses have witnessed a quantum jump as more than 42,000 applications were sold this year which is 60 per cent higher compared to last year.
The applications will be issued until Friday evening. The last date for submission of filled in applications is July 8.
"Totally 42,798 applications were sold as of Thursday. Of these 30,894 applications for government quota seats and 11,924 applications for management quota seats," officials said.
In the previous year, the selection committee had issued around 26,000 applications. "This year we are conducting counselling for management quota seats as well. So, we are seeing an increase in the sale of applications," they
said.
As per the government's announcement, the state government quota seats will be filled as per the Neet ranks. To protect the rural students, the government has reserved 85% seats for state board students and remaining seats will be allocated to students from other boards.
The students will compete for 3,377 seats in government medical colleges and government quota seats in self-financing colleges. The rank list for MBBS and BDS admissions will be released on July 14 and the counselling is scheduled to start on July 17.
