Chennai: Retired SI, police kin try to enter secretariat
Chennai: A retired police sub-inspector and family members of a few other police personnel were detained at Fort St George when they tried to enter the secretariat complex to meet CM to press demands for khaki clad men and women on Thursday.
Before being whisked away by the city police headed by joint commissioner of police, R Sudhakar, the retired SI, S Selva Azhagu, from Thanjavur told media persons that he, along with others had come to Chennai to meet CM to hand over their petition containing demands of police personnel working in the state.
The demands of police personnel include eight hours duty a day, mandatory weekly off, filling up vacancies in law and order wing, abolition of orderly system and recognition for Tamil Nadu constabulary association.
As Selva Azhagu was interacting with the media with the statement that IPS officials are on fast track when it comes promotion while the constabulary has struggle to get their demand, the city police team intervened and advised him to stop and tried to whisk away to north Beach police station.
He was taken to police station along with 16 others including six women. All were released later in the evening.
Amidst tight security, media teams were waiting for families of police personnel to turn up from 9 am, after social media was abuzz with discussion on possibilities of their meeting with CM.
