BENGALURU: High drama prevailed in Laggere near Rajagopalnagar on Wednesday after two BBMP corporators, belonging to different parties, and their supporters fought over a road inspection. Later both of them filed complaints with police and withdrew them after few hours.
According to the police, Laggere corporator Manjula Narayanaswamy of JD(S) carried out an inspection of road work in her ward in the afternoon. Siddegowda, a nominated corporator from Congress party, reportedly objected to it and rushed to the spot. Soon a heated argument took place between them over who had the right to inspect the road.
Manjula later told media that Siddegowda threatened her if she went ahead with the inspection. “One of their goons also assaulted us,” she added. Various TV news channels showed footage of Manjula sitting near an under construction road and in tears.
Siddegowda, a close associate of local MLA Munirathna, however, claimed that a Manjula was playing a political game. The road, he claimed was being constructed using the MLA funds and she had no right to intervene.
Later both parties filed complaints against each other. Police officers said that after their intervention, they withdrew their complaints and left the station.
