Murgi Chowk To Get Facelift After Demolition

Hyderabad: The historic Mahbub Chowk Market, commonly known as the Murgi Chowk, was demolished late on Tuesday evening in Hyderabad. This marks the latest addition to the list of places being renovated as part of the government's development initiatives in the area. The old market will be replaced by a new one.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) will collaborate to restore the renowned market. The new design will feature an additional floor to increase space and provide improved facilities. The estimated cost for the renovation is ₹36 crore. The revamped Chowk complex will include a dedicated zone for meat and poultry businesses, complete with purpose-built shops and infrastructure, including drainage and wastewater treatment.

The demolition process and debris removal will be completed within two weeks. In the meantime, temporary spaces have been arranged near Khilwat palace, specifically Urdu Maskan, for the Mehboob Chowk traders to continue their businesses.
