Repeaters shine in NEET 2019
Thiruvananthapuram: Nearly half the number of students who cleared the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 are repeaters, including those who appeared for the second or third chance. The results of NEET were declared on Wednesday.
Former Joint Commissioner for Entrance Examinations Rajoo Krishnan told Deccan Chronicle that the repeaters do well because could concentrate on the preparation for NEET. On the other hand, those who appear for the test for the first time have to prepare for both the entrance examinations and the Plus-Two examinations, the qualifying examinations, he said.
Three candidates from the state have come in the top 50 in the examinations. Athul Manoj secured 29th rank, Hridya Lekshmi Bose 31st and V.P. Aswin 33rd.
Rajasthan native Nalin Khandelwal topped the examinations. Delhi's Bhavik Bansal and Akshat Kaushik from Uttar Pradesh secured the second and third positions respectively.
Telangana's G. Madhuri Reddy emerged topper among girls and secured an all-India rank of seven.
The NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in medical and dental colleges approved by the Medical Council of India and the Dental Council of India. The NTA conducted NEET throughout the country on May 5 and 20. Of the total of 14, 10,755 students who wrote the examinations, around 7, 97,042 passed at the all-India level.The state registered a pass percentage of 66.59, slightly lower than last year's 66.74. Of the 1, 10,206 students who wrote the test, only 73,385 qualified from the state.
In Karnataka, of the total of 1, 02,735 students who attempted the test, 64,982 cleared producing a pass percentage of 63.25. In Tamil Nadu, out of 1, 23,078 students who appeared, only 59,785 qualified. The pass percentage of 48.57 is better than last year's 39.56.
