Kollam: Mishap on 1st day of school

Kollam: Two children, their mothers, and a toddler were seriously injured when a speeding car hit them at Eram near Anchal on Thursday morning. The incident took place while the parents were taking their wards to the Eram LP school on the first day of the academic year at around 9.30 am.

The car that lost control while overtaking an autorickshaw near Eram junction, hit the group of students and their parents who were walking along the roadside, leaving at least three children and two mothers injured.

First year students Noorjahan, 6, her mother Ancy, 25, Bismi, 6, Bismi’s one and a half years old sister Sumayya, and their mother Sheeba, 28, were injured.

The children Bismi and Sumayya, who sustained serious head injuries have been shifted to SAT hospital in Thiruvanantha-puram after getting first aid at a private hospital in Anchal. The condition of these children continues to be critical at the hospital while that of others who are in Thiruvananthapuram MCH is stable.

Police later seized the car and took one Ajitha Kumari of Areeplachi, Kuruvikkonam in Anchal, who is a retired teacher, under custody for rash driving and causing the accident. She underwent treatment at a private hospital in Anchal due to minor injuries in the mishap.
