Kochi: The state government plans to initiate a research project to identify the source of the Nipah virus in the background of the outbreak of the disease in the state for the second time in a year, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Thursday. Speaking to mediapersons after a review meeting in Kochi on the current situation, the chief minister said joint efforts will be made to monitor bats, suspected to be carriers of the dreaded virus.
A special meeting of forests, agriculture, animal husbandry and health departments will be held to formulate the necessary strategy. Expressing relief over the report that six suspected cases were not found to be positive,
Mr Vijayan said vigilance and quarantine measures will continue to eliminate the possibility of spreading of the disease completely.
A central team has examined places in Thodupuzha as part of locating the source of the virus.
The team inspected the house at Perumpallychira and its surrounding areas in which the affected person has been residing. The team mainly examined the presence of bats or the availability of fruits with suspected bats bite.
The team has said nothing suspicious was located. The vigil kept on the neighbours of the youth has also been lifted as the time for the possible infection was over.
