Hyderabad: Police books man after MIM protests

He denied that sub-inspector Srinivas or any other police officer had abused the youths or behaved badly against them.

Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills police booked one Syed Akhtar and his brothers for alleged attempt to murder following a protest conducted by the MIM. The genesis was the attack on some youths as they were exiting a mosque. They went to complain to the Banjara Hills police against one Syed Akhtar and his brothers for the attack.

Mehdipatnam corporator and ex-mayor Majid Hussain demonstrated before the Banjara Hills police station on Wednesday and alleged that the police was being lenient towards Akhtar.

Instead of taking action against the accused, sub-inspector Srinivas had refused to take the complaint, abused the youths and thrown them out of the police station, Mr Hussain alleged. Nampally legislator Jaffer Hussain Meraj arrived at the spot, interacted with Banjara Hills ACP K. Srinivasa Rao and asked him to take appropriate action.

Banjara Hills Station House Officer N. Kallinga Rao said, “According to the complaint, we have registered a case against Akhtar and his brothers under Sections 307, 324, 148, and 149 of the IPC.”

He denied that sub-inspector Srinivas or any other police officer had abused the youths or behaved badly against them. “Syed Akhtar approached us to lodge a counter complaint. We are looking into the matter.”

Akhtar, a Congress leader, is allegedly in a relationship with a married woman. Her husband had caught them red-handed at Chintal Basthi in April, locked them inside the house and called the police.

Syed Akhtar on Wednesday night visited Syednagar to meet his friend, who happens to be a neighbour of the woman’s parents. Her brothers raised an objection to his presence, which led to a scuffle. Akhtar escaped but returned with his friends on Id-ul-Fitr and attacked the youth.
