Hyderabad: Boy drowns in sump of a construction site
Hyderabad: A five-year-old boy from Malkapet on Thursday died after drowning in a water sump in an underconstruction building located opposite his house. Malakpet police suspect that the boy, identified as Shaik Abdul Rehman (5), was playing inside the premises of the under-construction building when the incident took place.
The parents of the deceased were identified as Shaik Yakub, a key maker, and Shamshad Begum, a homemaker, residents of Moosarambagh, Malakpet. Around 11.30 am on Thursday, Yakub was away for work and Shamshad was busy with household chores when she noticed that her son Rehman had gone missing. After searching extensively in the neighbouring areas, Shamshad and some locals went to the under-construction building opposite her house and found Rehman lying unconscious in the water sump.
Shamshad then immediately alerted Yakub, who rushed back and took Rehman to a private hospital in Moosarambagh for treatment. However, the doctors at the hospital declared Rehman dead before admission.
Yakub alleged that the owner of the under-construction house was negligent and had not taken safety measures, which had led to Rehman's death.
Based on the complaint, a case of death due to the negligence was registered for the probe, and Rehman's body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for its postmortem examination, the inspector said.
Upon learning about the incident, Malakpet constituency MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala visited the parents of the deceased to express his condolences. He also asked the revenue authorities and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to provide the necessary support to the bereaved family.
