DMK to extend support to Nammalvar’s human chain against methane project

In a statement on Thursday, DMK President MK Stalin stated the organisation sought the support of DMK.

CHENNAI: The DMK will extend support to the 596-km long human chain agitation organised by an organisation floated by G. Nammalvar, green crusader and organic farming expert, on June 12 to protest against multi-crore hydrocarbon project. The NGO 'Movement Against Disaster' will hold human chain protest from Villupuram district to Rameswaram covering a distance of 596 km at 5.30 pm on June 12.

Nammalvar was best known for his work on spreading ecological farming and organic farming. Environmental activist Nammalvar, among others, led the protest against proposed methane gas project in Cauvery delta region. He died in December 2013.

Protesting against the proposed hydrocarbon project, the NGO will hold the human chain protest covering Villupuram, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur and Rameswaram in Ramathapuram district.

In a statement on Thursday, DMK President MK Stalin stated the organisation sought the support of DMK. Considering the importance of the demonstration, the party has decided to take part in it. He appealed to all the office bearers and cadres in these districts to take part in the demonstration to echo the sentiments of the people and farmers to Centre and State governments.
