Congress-DMK pact for local bodies polls too: TNCC
TIRUCHY: With the Congress registering impressive victories in the recent Lok Sabha polls as part of the DMK-led front, the alliance between the two parties will continue for the ensuing Local Bodies elections also in Tamil Nadu, TNCC president K S Azhagiri said.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday after a meeting with the party’s Tiruchy district Congress functionaries including Mr. Jawahar, urban district president, he should Centre and State governments should seek clarification from scientists whether hydrocarbon and methane extraction projects endangered groundwater potential in Cauvery delta districts and agricultural operations, he said governments could go ahead with the project only if Scientists gave their clearance and which also convinced the farmers. Otherwise, the governments should give up its move once for all, he added.
To a question, he said the Tamil Nadu Government was not clear in its language policy and three language policy “is not suited for us”. The third language in schools will be an additional burden to the students. Since there is two language formula, there is no need to impose a third language, he stressed.
Mr. Azhagiri said in the Central Government’s recruitment last year for its offices in Tamil Nadu, out of 10,500 persons appointed, only 520 persons were from Tamil Nadu. The Central Government should come out with regional recruitments, he suggested.
Referring to the Neet exam, he said though there was a slight increase in the pass percentage of Tamil Nadu students this year compared to last year, Tamil Nadu government should pressure the Centre to get an exemption for the state from Neet for two to three years.
