GMR airport uses top technology to avoid runway damage

The AGSG technology has helped the airport to complete the project in less than 15 days.

Hyderabad: The GMR airport has improved the life of its main runway by using Airport Grade Steel Guard (AGSG) technology. It is a protective coat designed to preserve and extend the life of existing asphalt surfaces.

GMR, in its statement on Wednesday, said, "This innovative technology has quick-setting feature, which enables the runway to take the load after two hours of application."

The AGSG technology has helped the airport to complete the project in less than 15 days as against the conventional mode of runway preservation, which would have taken more than 3 months to finish.

Mr. S.G.K Kishore, CEO of GHIAL, said, “The effectiveness of this new technology was realised during the recent incident of tyre-burst of an IndiGo aircraft. Not a single portion of the main runway was damaged.”
