Army tells cops of threat from highways near SCB

This was the first meeting of the Army with the police after the reopening of some roads in the SCB, and relaxation of night restrictions.

Hyderabad: Major General N. Srinivas Rao, General Officer Commanding in Chief, TS & AP Sub Area, told the top brass of the TS police that the Secunderabad Cantonment, Golconda, Mehdipatnam and Bowenpally were open and porous areas with a large civil population around them. Major roads and highways close to the cantonment further compounded the problem of security.

This was the first meeting of the Army with the police after the reopening of some roads in the SCB, and relaxation of night restrictions. Top Army and police officials discussed the security concerns of the Local Military Authority.

The meeting was held to address each other’s concerns and to ensure security to civil, public and defence establishments. The police officials represented the Intelligence, traffic, Greyhounds and Octopus wings while the commandants of all military and air force establishments and representatives of NSG were present.

Maj. Gen. Rao highlighted the present security environment and recent developments in the country with increased terrorist activities as well as the involvement of anti-social elements.

TS Director-General of M. Mahendar Reddy said “Such convergence meetings between the armed forces and police are very important to develop a rapport between officials and get prepared to face any contingency.”

He said the Army was invited to send a representative at the Integrated Command Control Centre coming up at Road No.12, Banjara Hills, for better coordination. Police and Army officials discussed external and internal security issues and reviewed the preparedness for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
