Visakhapatnam to get debris recycle plant

The project would be executed in a public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism.

Visakhapatnam: It is a move which is expected to reduce the load at landfills and massive dumping of construction debris in and around the city.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will soon get a recycling plant for construction and demolition (C&D) of waste.

The state government has accorded permission to the Swachha Andhra Corporation to float Request for Proposal for this 80-tonne per day capacity recycling plant. It was learnt that the GVMC has primarily identified a pocket of land for this project near Kapuluppada. The project would be executed in a public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism.

Owing to its rapid urbanisation, the GVMC has been experiencing an exponential increase in construction and demolition activities. Some studies also shed light on the aspect of how the construction waste is adding to the groundwater pollution. Furthermore, it is expected that the construction waste would increase in the coming years.
