Challenges multiply after bifurcation of AP and Telangana
Vijayawada: Director General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramudu has said that the Andhra Pradesh police is facing serious challenges as it lost infrastructure facilities like the AP Police Academy, the Greyhounds training academy and organisations like Octopus, FSL and other important organisations, as also manpower, following the state bifurcation. All of these remained with Telangana State.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, the DGP said while the bifurcation was done two years ago, several issues were still pending before the Centre. The AP police recently took up issues with the Centre, at a meeting held in New Delhi. Now, neither space nor infrastructure facilities was available to give training for police personnel. The APSP division has not be-en completed and Andhra Pradesh should get nearly 3,000 staff as per AP Reorganisation Act. Even the police department has faced several setbacks but the performance was satisfactory, he said.
Nearly 16,000 posts are vacant in the police depa-rtment, he said, and added that the government has given sanction for filling 6,000 posts.
The Anantapur police-training centre has been turned into a temporary police training academy. The CRPF centre would be established in Agiripalli in Krishna district and already the AP police had requested the Centre to allot additional staff for it. Nearly 7,000 people died in road accidents during the last one year.
The police would give strong punishment to those indulging in drunk driving, he said.
