Visakhapatnam: Six Maoists surrendered before the Vizag Rural police on Monday.

Among them, two are from Pedabayalu Area Committee of CPI Maoists in Andhra-Odisha-Border (AOB) area and the other four are hardcore militia members.

SP (Rural) Babuji Attada identified the six as G. Birusu, 24, G. Ramayya, 25, K. Satti Babu, 37, G. Satyanarayana, 19, K. Ganapati, 40, and K. Pethro, 19.

They were fed up with their ideologies and surrendered before the police. Birusu was involved in one murder and four other offences, while Ramayya played a key role in three murders as well as planting landmines at Cheekupanasa village at the time of general elections. Ganapathi and Pethro committed two murders each.

The SP has assured that the police will not frame any cases against the surrendered Maoists. He gave a call for other Maoists cadres also to join the mainstream.

Mr Babjee said that there are more than 150 cadres in the AOB area, including persons from Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The militia members have surrendered mainly to get back into the mainstream and they have given back the weapons to the Maoist leaders. All of them would be rehabilitated as per the government policy for surrendering Naxalites.
