Mappilapattu singer Eranholi Moosa dead

Moosa who initially sang at wedding functions later gained popularity in Malayalam films.

Kozhikode: Noted Mappilapattu singer Eranholi Moosa, 75, died at his residence at Gopalpet in Thalassery on Monday. Moosa was under treatment for pulmonary disease in a private hospital here for over a month and was shifted to his residence on the advice of his doctor. During the last few weeks, Moosa had lost his ability to speak and was in a critical condition. The end came at 12. 45 p.m.

A fake news regarding his death had spread on the social media three months ago.

Moosa, who started his career in singing at the age of 14, initially performed Mappila songs at wedding functions and later gained popularity in the Malayalam film industry and stage shows.

He had recently penned a popular song in the film 'Oru Adaar Love, 'Manikya Malar.' He acted in the film Gramaphone, starring Dileep and Meera Jasmine in the lead roles.

Moosa popularised Mappila songs with all their authenticity. He also served as the vice-chairman of folkore academy.

He learnt classical music under Sharathchandra Marar for two years and later sang for Akashavani. Some of his popular hits include Mailanji Arachallo and Kettukal Moonum Ketti.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a condolence message said that his death was a great loss to the music industry as he had played an important role in popularising Mappila songs worldwide.
