Nearly 9,000 take Neet at 12 centres in Pondicherry

The officials pacified them explaining that the strict rules were put forth by higher-ups.

Puducherry: An estimated 8,890 students took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) held at 12 centres here on Sunday. The entrance test was held amid tight security. Candidates reached the examination centres much before the test as they had to undergo strict checking. Teachers announced the test rules within the centres.

Girls had to remove their earrings and nose studs and plait their hair. The supervisors screened students for paper, pencil box, electronic items, goggles, wallet and other banned items

Tension mounted at the Sarada Gangadharan college here when a girl student was denied permission to enter the examination centre, as she was were late by a few minutes. Though the parents tried to convince the police and the officials, the student was not allowed to take the examination.

The officials pacified them explaining that the strict rules were put forth by higher-ups. Parents were seen waiting outside the examination centres on in some places till the exam got over.

Puducherry Chief Minister had announced financial support would be given to students taking the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) outside the State.
