Hyderabad: Telangana engineering, pharmacy and MBA colleges which have not cleared their pending dues the university by May 7, 2018, will not be included in the counselling list for the academic year 2018-2019. Such colleges will also not get affiliations for the academic year 2018-2019, as per the directive of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.
JNTU-H has taken this stern step as majority of the colleges in the State owe crores of rupees to the varsity. Almost all the technical colleges and management colleges have not paid the common service fees and the affiliation fees due to which they have huge dues pending to be paid to the university. The varsity has also made it clear to all the colleges that they will not be given any further extension to clear the overdue payments.
The common services fee forms a major chunk of university's revenue. Each college has to pay Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per head depending on the year of study of the students. There are nearly 270 engineering colleges and most pay in the range of Rs 22 lakh to Rs 80 lakh depending on the number of students enrolled in them.
In a circular issued to all the colleges, JNTUH said, "All the affiliated college managements, principals and secretaries are hereby informed that the last date to clear the pending dues of affiliation and common service fee has been further extended to May 7, 2018.
Non-clearance of the dues will be viewed upon very seriously and such colleges will not be included in the counselling list for the academic year 2018-2019. It is to be noted that there will not be any further extension date for payment of pending dues."
Professor Venugopal Rao, Vice Chancellor Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University said, "We have time and again been reminding the colleges that have not cleared their dues regarding common service fees and affiliation fees. Earlier the colleges were excusing themselves by saying that the Government was not reimbursing on time due to which they were not able to pay the dues on time. But now we have issued a circular to all the colleges that they should pay the dues by May 7, 2018 otherwise they would not be considered for affiliations and counselling for the academic year 2018-2019."
However, the Telangana engineering colleges are still alleging that the payments to the university are due because the Government has not reimbursed the fees still. "A few college managements are not able to pay the dues due to the delay in fee reimbursements. There are some colleges that owe Rs 1 cr. or more to the varsity. We have requested the university to grant some leniency and give us a minimum-amount-payable figure because it is not possible to pay the whole amount at the same time", said Mr Goutham Rao, President for Telangana Engineering Colleges Managements.
