Hyderabad: The modus operandi of gangs differs from each group, thereby making it tough for cops to break into their network. Some hire men as ‘collection agents’ and provide these men with bikes and ‘good commission’ over the winnings, while others organise it online.
Gangs take to the social media platforms and have code words to avoid suspicion. “We have picked up men from different walks of life ranging from HR professionals, students, private employees, to make quick bucks in couple of hours,” said the Additional DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force, Mr S. Chaitanya Kumar.
Last week, the East Zone Team busted a cricket betting racket and apprehended two from Chudi Bazar.
Who were 'appointed' by a bookie to collect amounts from agents and were also given a bike for the operations.
“The duo were friends and they came in contact with one Suraj, a cricket bookie who accepted cricket bettings from the punter over the phone clandestinely but in an organised way. The two joined Suraj and he appointed them as collecting agents for betting amounts and promised to pay them good commission,” said the DCP.
With 10 gangs nabbed by the Task Force officials this IPL season, the officials are all set to crack down on more such gangs and bookies across the three Commissionerates.
