Power goes off, water supply hit due to thunderstorm in Hyderabad

A few areas received water in the afternoon.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad faced a water shortage of 25 million gallons due to widespread power failures following Friday morning’s thunderstorm.

Many areas did not receive drinking water due to power failure at all pumping stations including head works. A few areas received water in the afternoon.

A HMWS&SB official said, “Due to high velocity winds and rains, which started from 4 am today, there was power interruption in all water supply pumping stations including the head works in Krishna and Godavari Water Supply Schemes. Work on restoration of water supply was taken up. Most of the pumping stations were restored with water being supplied by noon and at one or two places by 3 pm. There was a total shortage 25 MG of water due to the power failure. There was no damage to either pumps or pipelines. Normalcy in water supply was brought back by 3 pm.”
