Miracle escape: Roof of the hostel building came crashing
Hyderabad: It was a miraculous escape for students living in a hostel at Ashok Nagar after the roof of the building came crashing down during Friday morning storm. Six inmates suffered injuries.
A police complaint has been filed by the students as the space they were living in, on the top of the building, was illegally constructed.
Photos from the site — of Abhisree Womens hostel within Jawaharnagar police station limits — showed iron bars and parts of the structure lying on students’ beds. Few received minor injuries but almost all students lost their certificates and books. The owner — who didn’t turn up — had built the makeshift accommodation on the fifth floor of a building. In another incident an asbestos sheet roof came tumbling down at a house in Shaheen Nagar, Jalpally. Luckily, the family inside was not hurt. Three separate incidents of compound walls collapsing were reported.
