Bandi Sanjay's phone 'stolen': Chugh

Hyderabad: The saffron party claimed that the police had purloined BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s phone between Wednesday midnight and Thursday, when they arrested him. The police claimed that they had asked Sanjay to hand over the phone, but he claimed to have told them that he did not know where it was.

Warangal police chief A.V. Ranganath, in the midst of the SSC paper leak controversy, made this clear during his Wednesday evening press conference.

Regardless of who is correct regarding Sanjay's phone's whereabouts, the fact remains that the state BJP president's phone — if its contents are being covertly unravelled by the police as the BJP claims — could prove to be a veritable gold mine for the BRS.

The police were functioning as an agent of the ruling party, according to the BJP, and having Sanjay's phone in their hands was as good as having it in the hands of the BRS' bosses. If Sanjay's phone was in police hands, every conversation he had had with party officials, or anyone else, and every exchange of text messages might end up in the hands of the ruling party, something the BJP does not want to happen.

In this background, BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh told reporters in Karimnagar on Friday, with Sanjay sitting next to him: "The police asking for Sanjay's phone was ridiculous because they can easily get all his call data and contacts from the service provider. If the police intend to make Sanjay's phone data public, we demand that KTR's phone data be made public as well."

“The police must return Sanjay’s mobile phone. The BJP will get it back. We will go to the courts, and approach the Speaker of the Lok Sabha saying a MP’s phone has been stolen by the Telangana police. KCR has turned the Telangana police into mobile phone thieves,” Chugh remarked.

Chugh said “when Sanjay was taken into custody, he had his phone on him. But after being taken around from place to place, he did not have it with him. Therefore, our question is where is Sanjay’s mobile?
