Kozhikode: Drought mitigation team formed

A meeting convened by district collector decided to speed up works on drinking water projects, preserve sources and ensure water supply.

Kozhikode: The district administration formed a drought mitigation team on Saturday, consisting of higher level officials from various departments with a mission to implement long and short term projects on a war footing.

A meeting convened by district collector Sambasiva Rao decided to speed up works on drinking water projects, preserve sources and ensure water supply round-the-clock.

They will survey pipelines to identify those require maintenance and will utilise the summer showers expected this week to the fullest for conserving water.

He entrusted the executive engineer of the Kerala Water Authority to complete minor works at the earliest, besides initiating procedures for availing of funds for major works.

The team will call meetings across all Assembly constituencies to review the drought preparedness.

Well recharging and reviving of rivers and other water sources are part of its tasks.
