After much delay, schools get only half fund from Telangana

Generally, the funds release starts in June or July and is paid out over four instalments.

Hyderabad: The school education department has released school management funds just as the academic year is ending, but has paid only half the money.

The funds were meant to purchase stationery and laboratory equipment, celebrate national festivals, pay electricity and internet charges and newspaper subscriptions, repairs to amenities, and for swachata programmes.

Generally, the funds release starts in June or July and is paid out over four instalments. This time it was released at the end of the academic year and there were no proper guidelines on how to claim the amount. This time the fund has been released under Samag-ra Shiksha, against the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamika Shiksha Abhiyan earlier Mr Chava Ravi from the United Teachers Federation said only the first two instalments were released. “Most of the headmasters have spent more than this,” he said.

Mr Naganti Narayana of the Centre for Education and Research Analysis pointed out that the funds were released after the academic year and the financial year. “The bills should be submitted before the financial year. There is no clearance from the financial department on how to utilise these funds,” he said.
