Thrissur: Chamber of commerce to ignore hartal calls

The chamber is affiliated to The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti.

Thrissur: The chamber of Commerce in Thrissur has come out in open against the frequent hartals. The functionaries of the unit said here on Friday that they would not be taking part in any of the hartals from now on including the one called by Dalit organisations on Monday. President of the unit C.A. Saleem said that all the traders associated with the chamber would open their shops during hartals as they could not suffer the financial loss caused by frequent hartals called by political parties and other organisations.

“We have taken such a decision with the support extended by Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti, Bus Operators Association, and hoteliers’ associations,” secretary of the chamber Sajive Manjila said. He said that the chamber did not have any political affiliations, and was ready to hold consultations with political parties over the matter.

“We expect all the support from the public on the stand taken by us in the issue of hartals. Our organisation came up with such a bold step after holding several rounds of internal talks between the businessmen and traders,” he added. The chamber is affiliated to The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti.
