Collector vows to protect art walls in Kozhikode city
KOZHIKODE: The district administration will act tough against those who spoil the walls and pillars across the city which were cleaned and decorated with beautiful paintings by the young artists' collective, 'Artists of Kozhikode.' District collector U.V. Jose said that strict action would be taken against the culprits who paste advertisements and fix flex boards on the walls and pillars. Mr Jose, who is also an active participant of the 'Artists of Kozhikode' project and the patron of the initiative, was reacting to the DC report in this regard.
"For a few months, there was no such defacing, but again there are attempts across the city to paste posters on paintings and cleaned up surfaces," he said. "Directions have been given to identify the persons, organisations and firms behind it and they would be punished," he added. Assistant collector V. Vigneswari told DC that the details of those who pasted posters and fixed advertisements on the walls were being gathered. The young artists of the city, including Linesh Art, had decried the defacing of the walls and paintings. Linesh had recreated on the pillar the scene from the film 'Ustad Hotel, ' in which actors Thilakan and Dulquer Salmaan are seen sitting on the city beach.
