Telangana government to give sheep to 4 lakh families

The state government will distribute sheep to four lakh Yadava and Kuruma families.

Hyderabad: The state government will distribute sheep to four lakh Yadava and Kuruma families. The distribution will begin in June, as part of the government’s policy to encourage caste-based occupations to revive rural economy. The state will bear 75 per cent of the cost of the animals and the beneficiaries 25 per cent.

Each unit will have 20 female and a male sheep and costs Rs 1.25 lakh. Lots will be held where numbers of beneficiaries are more. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reviewed the implementation of scheme with officials on Thursday. He asked officials to ensure the scheme reaches genuine beneficiaries and there is no scope for corruption or political recommendation in selection of beneficiaries.

Those above 18 years of age are eligible to claim the benefit. The Chief Minister directed officials to purchase sheep only from neighbouring states and not procure local sheep.
