Chennai: With a view to protect the interest of students already admitted in PG medical courses in Saveetha Medical College and Hospital (Saveetha University), the Madras high court has declined to interfere with their admission for the time being, but made it clear that their admission is subject to the result of the pending petition.
Passing interim orders on a petition filed by Saveetha Medical College and Hospital in Thandalam, a division bench comprising Justices S. Nagamuthu and Anita Sumanth also directed the college to inform the 36 students that their admission in the PG medical courses in the college is subject to the result of its petition.
“The 36 students admitted in the petitioner university shall be at liberty to apply for state counseling on or before April 11 and if they are selected, they are at liberty to join the college of their own choice,” the bench said.
The bench posted to April 20, further hearing of the petition filed by Saveetha Medical College, which sought to declare as unconstitutional, the Regulation 9 A of the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulation 2000 as amended by the Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations 2017 through notification of the Medical Council of India dated March 10, 2017.
According to petitioner, the university has followed a transparent admission procedure to admit MD/MS/PG courses for the academic year 2017-18 by following the ranking in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG) conducted by National Board of Examination.
