NRI claims Rs 3 lakh donation to Telangana-run home was misused

A member of the NGO said the incident proves that the government must look into the misuse of donations by officials.

Hyderabad: A donation of Rs 3 lakh by an NRI to a state-run home for women and children, has been misused by officials, an NGO has alleged.

The NRI, identified as Susheel Thakur, had in June last year, donated the money to an official named Haripriya Saraswathi. He claims that a request for a receipt has been rejected.

“I had to engage a lawyer to deal with Ms Haripriya as she was behaving unreasonably. When the lawyer sent the notice, Rs 15,000 was returned to me and the rest was promised to be returned in instalments. This is ridiculous as the money was paid as a donation,” Mr Thakur said in a detailed letter.

Complaints to higher-ups have not yielded a response. Mr Thakur lodged a complaint with an NGO in the city, seeking a police investigation into the matter.
