Bengaluru: Wider rail bridge at RM Nagar soon

Alternative road to be built close to TC Palya Main Road at a cost of Rs 17 crore to ease traffic congestion.

Bengaluru: There’s good news for people of Bengaluru east as the BDA and Railways have finally got down to widening the Railway Over- Bridge at the Ramamurthynagar signal and build an alternative road in the vicinity at a cost of Rs 17 crore, putting an end to the long wait that they have had to suffer at this point.

The proposed 40 feet wide and 135 feet long road will be built close to the T.C. Palya Main Road by the railways, but the cost will be borne by the government, according to K.R. Puram MLA, Byrati Basavaraju.

While the work on widening the ROB near Horamavu has begun, the contractor has been slapped with a notice for the slow pace at which he has been executing it, the MLA revealed.

“The railways have set a deadline of nine months for widening the Railway Over- Bridge and the approach roads on either sides of it, but the BDA and the contractor , Krishi InfraTech Engineers, have assured that the work will be completed in the next seven months,” he added.

With the completion of the project, people of Banasawadi, KR Puram, Ramamurthynagar and surrounding areas can breathe a sigh of relief as they will no longer have to wait for hours at the railway signal here.

“The project will be a huge relief as it will connect core Bengaluru with the Old Madras Road, Tirupathi and Chennai,” agreed Mr Srinivas Raju, a resident of Ramamurthynagar. The government, which had made a deposit of Rs. 11.7 crore with the railways in April 2016 for the project, was asked to pay an additional Rs. 2.11 crore when the estimate was revised. Once the ROB is completed, the BBMP will build the ramps on both sides and create islands and traffic signals, going by Mr Basavaraju.
