Karnataka PU paper leak: Small fry in net, but who is big fish?
Bengaluru: The probe into the PU Chemistry paper leak has revealed that the men behind the question paper scam go all the way to the top and it doesn't stop with just the Chemistry paper.
As the five men arrested for the scam are being questioned in connection with the Chemistry question paper leak case investigated by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), two names keep coming up — Mohan Kumar G.V. and Surya Prakash. Both men are PU department officials and are among the 40 officials who were suspended after the question paper leaked for the second time on March 31, top sources from the CID have told DC.
Investigators said that the leak does not begin or end with the 68-year-old Shivakumar alias Shivakumar Swamy, a repeat offender who has question paper leak cases pending against him. CID officials want to ascertain how Shivakumar and Manjunath sourced the Chemistry question paper.
“The question paper cannot get leaked without the knowledge of PU department officials or the PU Exam board officials who know full well that Shivakumar, even if he gets arrested, will not spill the beans against them,” sources stated.
“It’s a deep-rooted network where it is said that the involved PU department officials have the patronage of several highly influential persons - one among them, an alleged close aide to the senior BJP leader and former PWD minister C.M. Udasi who had recommended Obalaraju (one of the accused) to work under the Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash R. Patil's office as his Officer on Special Duty (OSD),” stated the sources adding that there is also speculation that an Independent MLA - who supported the BJP - had even contested elections with the money made from the question paper leak scam and had won the elections.
Racket runs deep
Records of Shivakumar’s telephone reveal that he had links with officials from the PWD, Revenue, PU Department and the police department. All PU department officials are being probed, CID sources said.
